纪伯伦(Kahlil Gibran)是黎巴嫩阿拉伯诗人、作家、画家。被称为“艺术天才”、“黎巴嫩文坛骄子”，是阿拉伯现代小说、艺术和散文的主要奠基人，20世纪阿拉伯新文学道路的开拓者之一。

爱情是一个光明的字，
被一支光明的手，
写在一张光明的纸上。
爱情是情人之间的一层面纱。
不肯原谅女人细微过失的男人，
永远不会享有她那美好的德性。
爱所给予的，只是他自己;
爱所取的，也只是取自他自己。
爱不占有，也不会为人所占。
因为爱身是自足的。
情人只拥抱了他们之间的一种东西，
而没有真正互相拥抱。
留下一点空间，让天风在爱之间舞蹈。
彼此相爱，但不要让爱成为束缚。
让爱成为灵魂两岸之间流动的海洋。
斟满彼此的酒杯，但不要同饮一杯。

I would not exchange the sorrows of myheart
For the joys of the multitude.
And I would not have the tears that sadness makes
To flow from my every part turn into laughter.
I would that my life remain a tear and a smile.

A tear to purify my heart and give meunderstanding.

微笑带来良友，是我荣耀

A tear to unite me with those of brokenheart;
A smile to be a sign of my joy in existence.
眼泪使我体会心碎之人的忧伤;
微笑是我快乐生活的模样。
I would rather that I died in yearning andlonging than that I live Weary and despairing.
与其在绝望和挣扎中苟活，
不如在希翼和盼望中死亡。
I want the hunger for love and beauty to be inthe
Depths of my spirit,for I have seen those who are
Satisfied the most wretched of people.
I have heard the sigh of those in yearning and Longing, and it issweeter than the sweetest melody.

With evening's coming the flower folds herpetals
And sleeps, embracing her longing.

The life of clouds is a parting and a meeting.
A tear and a smile.
大海的水汽蒸发，
汇集成云彩。

You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.
You shall be together when white wings of death scatter your days.
Aye, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.
But let there be spaces in your togetherness,
And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.
Love one another but make not a bond of love:
Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.
你们一同出生，而且永远相伴。
